history

The Family Apostolate, Diocese of Alleppey [ The earlier name was ' Pre-Cana Course] established in the year of 1973 by late Rev. Fr. Msgr. Varghese Puthenpuraickal, is aimed at giving orientation to the families to lead a true Christian life. Family is the basic unit of a society. Our Department  has a full time Director and an efficient team of qualified personnel. The department gives leadership training and counselling to the youth who enter the marriageable age.

The family apostolate of the diocese has been taking marvellous efforts to educate the society very particularly our families against the evils of drug addiction, abortion and artificial family planning etc... The official teachings of the Church are being taught in the simplest way and they are made a topic for discussion in the meetings of both these associations. Premarital education, known as Marriage Preparation Courses are efficaciously conducted by the family apostolate. The course completion certificate is a prerequisite for marriage in the diocese.

"The man said, ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called “woman,” for she was taken out of man.’ For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh." God created man and then made woman to complement him. Marriage is God’s “fix” for the fact that “it is not good for the man to be alone” - (Genesis 2:18).
